Director, Business Intelligence
Monday through Friday, 9:30 am – 5:30 pm (overtime as required)
The Business Intelligence team supports the firm across a broad spectrum of activities in support of new business and client relationship-building and strategic management decision making. The Business Intelligence team’s functions include detailed client and market intelligence; strategic analysis of industry, market and geopolitical trends; predictive analytics to identify new business opportunities; and competitive intelligence.
The Manager, Business Intelligence will play a key leadership role in the development and execution of the firm’s business intelligence strategy. Reporting to the Director of Business Intelligence, this individual will oversee and contribute to data analytics initiatives, leveraging advanced tools and techniques—especially Microsoft Excel—to identify actionable insights that drive business development efforts, competitive intelligence, and strategic decision-making.
In collaboration with the Director, the Manager will help build and manage a proactive, high-performing team of intelligence professionals, ensuring the delivery of timely, accurate, and impactful intelligence to support firm management and practice groups.
This role requires a strategic thinker with exceptional Excel proficiency, strong data visualization skills, and a hands-on approach to fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the Business Intelligence team.
Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Support the growth of the firm’s Business Intelligence function by contributing to the development of new intelligence offerings and capabilities and assisting in the onboarding and development of team members.
- Develop a strong understanding of the firm’s practice areas, attorney specialties, clients, and business development priorities to align Business Intelligence efforts with specific firm goals.
- Conduct and deliver strategic business and competitive analyses to support business development initiatives and assist firm management in decision-making.
- Identify new business opportunities by analyzing internal and external data and trends, including:
- Researching companies and industries to identify those likely to pursue transactions such as debt/equity offerings, M&A, or other opportunities.
- Supporting market trend analysis, including developments in the M&A, financing, and debt/equity markets.
- Collaborate with the Business Development team and other firm business services groups, such as Knowledge Management and Finance, to leverage various data sources and ensure consistency in reporting and insights.
- Assist in segmenting and analyzing clients, prospects, and competitors to provide insights into their business environments and corresponding opportunities for the firm.
- Prepare detailed profiles, reports, and analyses on key clients, prospects, industries, and geographies to inform business development and firm strategy.
- Use data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or Excel) to present data in clear, actionable formats for attorneys and firm leadership.
- Provide support for competitive intelligence initiatives by analyzing financial and market data, ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely, and actionable insights.
- . Excel Expertise:
- Design and maintain sophisticated Excel models to analyze data, predict trends, and create actionable reports.
- Leverage advanced Excel functions (e.g., Power Query, PivotTables, VBA, macros) to streamline analysis and reporting processes.
- Develop clear, insightful visualizations and dashboards within Excel to support decision-making.

- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or Excel) and intelligence databases and resources (e.g., S&P Capital IQ, Bloomberg, Pitchbook, Preqin)
- Excellent leadership, organizational and project management skills
- Ability to maintain professional composure in high-pressure situations and a fast-paced, multi-authority environment
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work confidently and collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the organization
- Ensure confidentiality of all the Firm’s and clients’ documentation and information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Advanced degree (MA, MSc, MBA, MLS, JD, PhD) preferred; background in business administration, library science, economics/ finance, computer science, international relations, or management science and engineering preferred
- 5-8 years of experience in business intelligence or other comparable law firm or professional services experience
The expected base salary for this position ranges from $175,000-225,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, anticipated assignment, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
