Davis Polk is advising J.P. Morgan Securities LLC as financial adviser to Newfield Exploration Company in connection with its approximately $5.5 billion acquisition by Encana Corporation. The transaction, which is expected to close in the first quarter of 2019, is subject to receipt of regulatory and shareholder approvals by both companies.

Newfield Exploration Company is an independent energy company engaged in the exploration, development and production of crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids. Encana is a leading North American energy producer that is focused on developing its strong portfolio of resource plays, held directly and indirectly through its subsidiaries, producing oil, natural gas liquids and natural gas.
