David Portilla discusses Gensler’s legacy at the SEC with Ignites
Davis Polk partner David Portilla was quoted in Ignites discussing the legacy of SEC Chair Gary Gensler as he plans to step down ahead of President Trump’s inauguration.
David noted that Gensler’s time at the SEC aligned with his track record when he was chair of the CTFC. “He [pushed] a lot through the agency, and he gets a lot of things done.”
Discussing the ambitious rulemaking items that were not finalized or lost in the courts, David said that when regulators have long agenda lists, “you get some things done and not other things.”
“Also, the agency had to contend with legal challenges,” he continued, “and that is just an effect of the rulemaking process at this point.”
