Davis Polk partner and Financial Institutions head Margaret Tahyar was quoted in Law360 on banking regulation to watch in 2023. “I would say 2020 was lost to the pandemic, 2021 was a slow build of the personnel and 2022 was thought and reflection,” she said. “2023 will really be the time for action.”

Discussing the potential for stricter bank merger review, Margaret said, “The banking regulators and the DOJ are being slow and careful here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re having difficulty coming to a consensus. I think a lot of things have been waiting for Michael Barr, including this.”

“[Barr has] been very thoughtful and sophisticated in his testimony,” she continued, “And I think a lot of people have been waiting for him not only to be in the room, but to get briefed and in a place where he can bring a nuanced point of view.”
