Davis Polk partners Timothy Graulich and Ronan Harty will be among speakers at the 2018 IBA Annual Conference. Graulich, the Co-Chair of the IBA Insolvency Section’s Legislation and Policy Subcommittee, will speak on “Restructuring Latin American Companies” on October 9th. This session will focus on the recent largest Brazilian restructuring cases to see what lessons can be learned, what changes are needed to improve the restructuring practice in the region, and what courts can do to influence outcomes.

Harty will participate in an interactive session on “merger control in a global context – coordination of filings and remedies.” The workshop will follow the life of an M&A transaction and identify the issues that can significantly impact transactions, such as:

  • What is a sound approach to dealing with the complexities of multijurisdictional merger control?
  • How can the parties effectively achieve clearances in a number of jurisdictions without being accused of ‘gaming the system’?
  • How can they effectively address competition issues in a number of jurisdictions without jeopardizing the core value of the transaction?

 

The IBA conference will be held October 7-12, 2018, in Rome.
