Arcos Dorados renewal of long-term master franchise agreement with McDonald’s

Davis Polk advised Arcos Dorados Holdings Inc. in connection with the renewal of its long-term master franchise agreement with McDonald’s Latin America, LLC. Under the master franchise agreement, Arcos Dorados is granted the exclusive right to own, operate and grant franchises of McDonald’s restaurants in 20 Latin American and Caribbean countries and territories for 20 years. The master franchise agreement also includes an option for McDonald’s to renew the agreement for an additional 20 years.
Arcos Dorados is the world’s largest independent McDonald’s franchisee, operating the largest quick service restaurant chain in Latin America and the Caribbean. Arcos Dorados currently owns, operates or sub-franchises more than 2,400 McDonald’s restaurants.
McDonald’s is the world’s leading global foodservice retailer with over 40,000 locations in over 100 countries. Approximately 95% of McDonald’s restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent local business owners.
