Davis Polk partners Sijia Cai and Alisa Waxman discussed trends in the private funds space and the increasing number of women working in the industry with Private Equity International.

“The primary trend we have been seeing this year is a high volume of complex secondaries transactions, particularly continuation vehicles, strip sales and GP-led deals. Although picking up, it is still a fairly slow fundraising market, which we expect will continue to improve going into next year,” Alisa explained.

When asked about the gender balance in private markets, Sijia noted, “Like many industries, the issue in asset management is not at the entry level. The harder question is always how we can better retain and support women through their careers.” She added that “for the next generation of women professionals, creating and maintaining a system of support, mentorship and opportunity will be key – and I have seen firsthand how investments in these types of women-focused initiatives can have a deep impact on the entire organization.”
